How do I book onto a shift?

This article describes the different ways you can be booked onto shifts using Patchwork.

There are three ways in which you can book or be booked onto shifts:

  1. Applying to shifts via the Patchwork app (needs approval from department)

  2. Automatically booking into shifts via the Patchwork mobile app if you have instant booking permissions

  3. Assigned onto shifts by your organisation admin staff via the Patchwork hub

Applying to shifts on the app

  • To apply for a shift, simply click on the shift that you wish to work to review the details, such as grade, rate, time etc.

  • Tap 'Book Shift' to apply

  • The shift status will then change to applied

  • The department will then need to accept you for the shift. You will receive email confirmation once you have been accepted, and your shift will transfer to your in-app planner as booked

💡Need further information? Click the 'Ask a Question' button available at the bottom of all shift cards. The question will be sent to the person who requested the shift, as well as the general department email address.

Automatically booking onto shifts

If you have instant booking permissions, you can automatically book these shifts via the app without needing to be approved by the department.

🚀 Instant booking permissions can be granted to workers by departments if appropriate. If you are well-known to a department, and work shifts there regularly, consider asking about having instant booking switched on.

3. Being assigned to a shift

Where you may have pre-agreed a shift with the department, or you need to record shifts you have already worked, the department can assign you within the hub. You will be notified by email when assigned to a shift in the hub.

If you need any support with the above, please get in touch with the Customer Care team at Patchwork at help@patchwork.health or click the support tab in the menu of the app. The team will be happy to help.

💡All shifts are accepted by departments and are not managed by the Patchwork team. Some departments work on a first come first served basis whilst others divide shifts amongst applicants. Patchwork is not responsible for how shifts are accepted; departments are responsible for shift allocation.
